lauds some Black shows as 'family friendly,.

The Media Research Center,
a conservative organization known for its stand against sex and
violence on television, recently released a 36-page report containing
a list of 25 "family friendly" prime time shows. Among
the shows being lauded as "family friendly" by the Alexandria,
VA, group in its 1995-96 Family Guide to Prime Time Television
are "Family Matters"; "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air";
"Sister, Sister"; "The Parent' Hood"; "Hangin'
With Mr. Cooper" and "Touched By An Angel."
The shows, according to the center, promote,
what the group calls "responsible themes and traditional
values." For example, the group says "Family Matters"
promotes a respect for parental authority, premarital celibacy
and the merits of a happy marriage, and asserts "Fresh Prince
Bel-Air" is "a pro-family series. `Fresh Prince' continues
to champion the work ethic, chastity, and individual responsibility."
As for "Hangin' With Mr. Cooper",
the group says the show "addresses family friendly themes
ranging from confronting schoolyard bullies to the importance
of honesty." "Touched By An Angel", says the group,
is one of brightest spots in the prime time schedule; every episode
talks about the existence of God and His Love.
While the group lauds the show "Sister, Sister", which
is listed twice on the list, as reinforcing traditional family
values on matters of discipline and the importance of a two-parent
household, it also says, "one main character spouts rather
risque dialogue; another, a successful businessman, is sometimes
portrayed in a mocking fashion."....You
